LOYA Scholarship Assistance

Working collaboratively with the high school guidance counselors and community leaders in Greene and Putnam Counties to assist students entering college with various needs to help them be successful.

More than providing assistance to help students get to college, LOYA also continues to provide assistance once they’re there.

Through the Mentorship program, volunteers learned seniors were leaving for college and still needing assistance. Recognizing that there was a void, in 2017 the LOYA Scholarship Assistance was established. This program provides up to $500/student for essentials to help them succeed in their college journey.

Assistance is currently provided in the form of room deposits, costs of books and digital access cards, transportation and other personal needs. In addition cap and gown graduation expenses are provided at this milestone.

In 2017, ten students were identified and provided assistance, with more added in each subsequent year. The College Assistance Program grows each year with graduates leaving the program and younger students applying.

From working closely with out students, our volunteers learned that graduating seniors were leaving for college and needed further assistance. From that realization, in 2017 we established LOYA Scholarship Assistance to help continue to support students upon graduation. So far, 90 students have received college scholarship assistance. As little as $500 can make it possible for a student to be in college.

College Assistance Program In the News

The Georgia Writers Museum (GWM) in Eatonton, Georgia, hosts a LOYA Scholarship and Assistance Program event.

There were many happy and hopeful faces leaving Georgia Writers Museum as the 34 students receiving LOYA assistance in 2022 picked up their customized, monogrammed dorm packages and PC’s. Going forward, each student also has a mentor who provides care, consultation, and advice during their college experience.

“We thought that getting into college was the challenge. The challenge is money for college.
